Hawaii -- Days 1 and 2

We set out to Hawaii early last Friday morning.  The kids are travel champs, carrying their own suitcases through the airport and sitting still for hours on end, even though they look out the window and insist that the plane is not moving at all, and how will we ever get to Hawaii?  But we made it, and got settled in our hotel in Kona, which had a nice little pool and sheltered beach, and a poolside restaurant where we had a dinner of...lemons?  No, we had fish and chips, but one little boy in our group loves to eat lemons!

The next morning, Brian was up quite early due to the 2 hour time difference, so we got up and went for a walk while we waited for everyone else to wake up.  The hotel grounds were small but nice to walk around.

We explored the huts that are a spa by day and a luau by night.

Another guy who was up early took a picture of the three of us in the early morning glow.  After breakfast, it was beach time!  The beach was great because it was protected from the waves, and nice and sandy, great for bulding castles...

...checking out the outrigger canoes...

...and spotting tropical fish (there were quite a few in our little enclosed beach).

Then it was time for some fun in the pool...

...and a walk into Kona to find lunch.  The town was beautiful; full of flowers!

We had lunch at a Thai restaurant and Eli put on quite a show with my sunglasses.  Doesn't he look fabulous?  (That's what he asks people when he dresses up.)

We had some fruit pops for dessert...

...and walked back along the seawall back to the hotel.

Well, most of us walked.

After naptime, it was back to the beach in the afternoon, for more building and splashing fun.

And dinner at a local brewerey... the wait was too long but the beer was good!
