Hawaii -- Day 5

New year's day!  This was Calvin's last morning, unfortunately.  We had a lovely breakfast on the lanai.  This is living!

Then we took a family picture...can you tell we were ready to go to the pool?

This day we went to check out the Hilton next door.  We had heard they had amazing pools and we were not disappointed!  There was a suspension bridge over the pool, and a waterslide that somehow I don't have a picture of... Brian loved it, and spent ages there.

Eli was too small to go down, though, so Calvin and I took him to the sandy kiddie pool.

They also had a dolphin encounter, which we didn't do, but enjoyed watching.

There was a little lagoon that was open to the ocean, but protected, so that there was no surf.  The kids went swimming there while Calvin and I went "snorkeling" (OK, it was really just swimming) and we saw lots of fish and even turtles!  Here's Calvin with a turtle:

The turtle just swimming:

And me with the turtle:

Eli loved swimming in the lagoon with his floaties, and I thought it was adorable how he held his breath, cheeks puffed, even though his face was well above water.  :)

One last shot of Eli and Calvin, then time to go home and pack up.

While Calvin was flying back to the mainland, I went for a walk with my mom on a beautiful but windy afternoon.

A reminder of where we were on new year's day 2013:

When the kids were up from naptime, there was time for a game of Angry Birds.  I bought this real-life version for Brian because I won't get it on my iPad...if it had Angry Birds I would never get a chance to use it!

Late in the afternoon, we went back to the Hilton to see the other pool.  It also had a fast waterslide...

...plus two little, slower waterslides that Eli could go on!  He was ecstatic.

All too soon the sun was going down, the tiki torches coming on, and the kids turning into human popsicles.

Beautiful end to a beautiful day!
