Hawaii -- Day 3

Sunday was another early morning...this is the view from our room, which gives a sense of how things were arranged.  You can see most of the small beach from here.

We had breakfast at the coffee shop again, and headed out to the beach.  We were up early enough that we had the beach to ourselves for a while!

This was our last morning in Kona, so we rented a kayak to go out and look around.   Calvin and I took the boys for a spin around our little bay, one at a time, then went out onto the open ocean to see the view.

Calvin didn't enjoy being on the ocean much, so we traded passengers and went out with grandma for a bit.

Calvin did some underwater sightseeing instead...

The water was so calm, Brian was able to swim around, no problem.

Eli found lots of cool ocean things and loved to show them off.

We went to lunch in a fun restaurant that felt like it was up in the trees.

And after lunch, we toured a coffee farm, starting with samples!

We learned all about coffee, how it is hand-picked over the course of months, then the bean is separated from the fruit that covers it, and spread out in the sun to dry.

Driving up to our next stop, the kids fell asleep, so we took a scenic drive through the Kohala mountains and saw the cattle ranches and lush grass that is up at the higher elevations there.

Our next stop was Waikoloa, where we were all staying in a rental condo.  The resort had a nice little sand pool for the kiddos, complete with a waterfall.  I couldn't stand the coarse sand (literally, or maybe I should say I coundn't stand on it), but they liked it.

Here we are, standing safely out of the sand.

Then we walked to the beach and saw some sea turtles sleeping on the beach!

The little bay here was pretty well protected so the kids went in the water for a while.

Eli swimming with grandma...

...and I seem to have hit my picture limit for the post.  More to follow!
